Introduction: A Dutch movie whose title translated in English is, "For a Lost Soldier." Inspired by the autobiographical novel authoured by Rudi van Dantzig. The movie, starring Jeroen Krabbé, Maarten Smit, and Andrew Kelley, was made in 1992. For unfamiliars to get the best out of the movie, one should view it alone and with out virtually any knowledge of the story line. Regardless, it should be noted that the book and the movie are very different from one other.

Overview: The film is told in one very long flash back of a choreographer, now living in America. World War II is raging on, and, there being food shortages at home in the city, his family, like thousands of other families with their children, send him to the country, where food is more plentiful. The twelve-year-old boy's mother leaves him with some clothes and a ration card. The card later proves useless in a land not touch but rationed supplies and resources. The film then follows the boy and his dealings with his coming of age, fears for his family, and life-changing relationships.
